37 "body": "I recently received the Xbox Series X through the All Access program, which was painless and the console arrived within two days.First impressions are that the console is incredibly fast to start, launch games and respond in general. Due to a larger fan at a lower RPM it’s also quiet under load, which is a large leap over the previous generation. Here’s a short pro/con summary:Pros:- Fast- Quiet- Quick Resume holding 3-4 games at a time to swap between is amazing. Jumping from Forza Horizon 4 to Call of the Sea for example takes under 10 seconds.- Game Pass is brilliant value for money and can’t be beaten with new additions every month. Netflix for games essentially.- Smart Delivery makes the most of game versions, giving existing purchases an upgrade if the developer wants. Much easier than the dual ownership system for PS4/5 where some upgrades are paid.- Backwards compatibility and FPS boost make older games run much better with faster loading and much higher frame rates which is great.- Controller compatibility is brilliant, being able to use original Xbox One controllers on the current system really expands how many people can play without shelling out too muchCons:- No Sony exclusives, obviously. Just putting that out there- Most upcoming Xbox exclusives that will truly make the most of the hardware are a little ways off. Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite are around the corner but titles such as Avowed, Fable, Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield and Forza Motorsport will land in 2022 and beyond, so a little bit of a wait for larger exclusive titles- The current generation is still maturing so cross generation games may sometimes not make full use of the hardware as developers figure out optimisation and such to get more out of this powerful hardware- No HDMI in. Coming from an Xbox One X and limited TV HDMI ports means I can’t run my Switch or other hardware through my Xbox- Expandable storage is expensive in my opinion. Almost £200 for 1TB, even NVME is absurd, especially when it runs at 2.5gbps. In comparison, installing a 7gbps 1TB M2 NVME with heatsink into a PS5 cost myself £130. Once SeaGate exclusivity expires for these cards I expect this may not be an issue but for reduced speed and the only benefit of it being a simple plug and play system, I was a little disappointed at the price point- Lack of digital Series X variant was a slight disappointment. I never use discs but also prefer 4K 60fps so the drive cost is a little bit of extra expense but you can’t have it all I suppose "

46 "body": "The Xbox Series X is an odd console to review. It’s certainly great in performance with support for 4K 120Hz HDR and improves performance of all games new and old, but as of now it lacks that “wow” factor that really makes it stand out compared to the older Xbox One X. I’ll admit I originally wanted the PS5 but settled for the Xbox due to lack of supply, but when I say that I mean it in terms of innovation, such as how the PS5’s new controller makes games more immersive with it’s dynamic triggers and rumble motors and a lineup of games both current and speculative based on the studios Sony has that just seem more fun. Looking back at Xbox’s history, there aren’t many unique games and franchises that I can think of; Halo, Gears of War, and Forza are the only major ones that I cared for, and even then those were all basically the same game. Fortunately it seems that Microsoft might actually care about delivering on exclusives this time around with its many studio acquisitions.Honestly the best thing about getting an Xbox over PS5 is Game Pass, which isn’t really saying much. While it’s great that players have access to a variety of games they can choose from the reality is that many of them are simply not interesting enough or are games you probably already played, especially if they were AAA games. Take for example the current lineup of AAA games, which includes Skyrim, Fallout 76, Gears of War, Forza, Doom Eternal, and now recently everything that EA Play already had in there like all the Battlefield games, Need for Speed, Star Wars Battlefront, and more: for a new player just starting out, this is an absolutely great value considering all the choices you have. However, for someone like me that generally buys these new releases for the sake of playing with my friends, many of the titles I listed are ones I’ve already played and don’t have interest in playing again. And while all of Microsoft’s new releases will be included with Game Pass, as of now and looking ahead a few months there isn’t anything coming soon.In conclusion, the Xbox Series X is a console that needs more time to really appreciate. It’s great for replaying older games for nostalgia or perhaps those that you missed, but if you’re looking for anything new aside from universal releases like from Activision, Ubisoft, EA, and Take Two you won’t find it here yet. I planned on getting this eventually but not until later in the year however this console is a great system for both new and existing Xbox fans. First thing first the setup is quick and easy all of your games you purchased from the Xbox one era are available to download and play on your new console right after the setup. I was surprised to see all my games I bought from the Xbox one show up immediately after I set up my condo. For those uninformed the series x can play a limited amount of games from the original Xbox from 2001 and Xbox 360 it can also play every single Xbox one game as well it also loads every game at a faster rate so you’ll be spending less time in a loading screen and more time gaming. The quick resume feature is amazing and by far my favorite feature of the console. It lets you switch between up to 5 games at a time without going through in game menus. For example you could be playing Halo 5 and decide you want to play GTA 4 (an Xbox 360 game) you’ll switch to gta 4 and if you decide to return to halo 5 you’ll continue right from where you left off. The console is also capable of displaying games (that allow it) at 4K resolution and 120fps if you have a tv that supports it. If not the console still works on a standard 1080p or 720p tv you just won’t get that premium image quality and smooth gameplay. I would recommend buying this over the Xbox series s as the series x is more powerful and will run games way better than the series s but if you are on a budget the series s is ok as well but do know that it does not have a disk drive so you will only be able to play digital copies of games instead of both physical and digital. Gamepass is also a great feature if you are just joining the Xbox brand as it gives you access to over 100+ games that you can download and play all the way through. Games are added and rotated out on a monthly bases some games stay on for years others get removed after a few months. Think of it as a Netflix for video games. I recommend getting gamepass ultimate as it gives you access to gamepass and Xbox live gold which give you access to online multiplayer titles. Gamepass ultimate is 15a month but for new members you can get it for 1$ for 3 months and pay the 15$ once the 3 month period is over. If you just joined the Xbox brand and have no games to play gamepass ultimate immediately erases that problem as you can play 100+ games spanding from Xbox 2001 to the Xbox series x/s generation. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on this console get it it’s a great console with a lot of consumer friendly benefits for new and returning players. "

I originally was on the classic Xbox One for a while, until eventually upgrading to the Xbox One X in early 2020. While it certainly was better in many ways from the previous console, it didn't FEEL just right - it still felt like I was being held back from truly playing games the way they were intended. This is by far the complete opposite, the Series X has been my best purchase for console gaming so far. I do plan to get the PS5 down the road when it's back in stock consistently, but honestly - this is my preferred place to play, I'm only getting the PS5 for the novelty and exclusives. To start, the SSD is a game changer. If you've ever felt that your consoles have taken longer than necessary to load even the simplest tasks - i.e. checking menus across the home, loading apps, and loading times in games - you will 1000% notice and appreciate just how speedy this console is. Everything is buttery smooth. It takes quite literally 2 full seconds to go from the Xbox being completely turned off, to having full control and being able to scroll through the menus. If I had 15 seconds to spare, I could turn the console on, check for updates manually, maybe even glance through the store, and turn it off. Essentially, this thing boots up and is functional about as quickly as your phone. NOTHING STUTTERS OR BUFFERS. I am absolutely stunned at how noticeable this improvement is. This also helps an amazing amount in games. After running some tests with my One X and the Series X, EVERYTHING LOADS EXPONENTIALLY FASTER. Switching cars in Forza Horizon 4 is a breeze, photo mode in games takes half a second, pictures of anything on the console (like game icons, or pictures in games/the store) show up instantly. As for power, consider me stunned. I do have a PC with an RTX 3070, and I'm still in awe at how this this thing is on the market for just $500... If you don't care for PC gaming but want the power to run some console games, spring for it, you will NOT regret it. If developers allow, every single game has stable/improved framerates and I'm quite sure it can handle every single game at 60fps, it mostly depends on how lazy or efficient the developers of each game are. Of the developers that optimize their games, I have had practically no games run at 1080p30, everything either runs very very well at 4k, or extremely stable 60fps, on many occasions I have played several games at a buttery smooth and crisp 4k60, like We Happy Few, AC: Valhalla, Call of the Sea, Forza Horizon 4, Grounded, Rocket League, Fortnite, Rogue Company, Sea of Thieves, Tetris Effect, and Windbound. Cyberpunk runs buttery smooth, but I would wait until the glitches are sorted out, it also can tend to look funny, I don't think the graphics look as good as they can get, but it's very much playable on performance mode. Watch Dogs Legion takes advantage of Ray Tracing, which is why it runs at 4k30, but that's still fantastic. This is just in the first few months too, I cannot wait to see how many more games take advantage of the power in this system.Games are great, and if you want a good deal, look no further. I bought a year's worth of Xbox live Gold, and then bought one month of Game Pass Ultimate, applying them in that order to your account will give you over a year of GAME PASS ULTIMATE. Game pass has been an absolutely fantastic service, and I've discovered several amazing titles on there, it truly has lots of variety. As for exclusives, I honestly think this has a better footing than PlayStation this time around. Now, PlayStation had plenty of fantastic exclusives for the PS4, and I played these all on my PS4 Pro, so I would like to say I'm not biased, but I can genuinely say the Xbox has a better lineup of titles, and will continue to have better titles as time goes on, I'm very confident with the direction Microsoft is taking Xbox, and it looks very promising. I don't have a PS5 yet so of course you have to use your due diligence if you're debating between the two, but I don't see much of a benefit by going to PlayStation as far as I'm aware. I'm not even done with the review too, there's so much to talk about. The cooling system is absolutely phenomenal. Even when running games at 4k60, 4k30RT, or super intensive games, I cannot get any more than a whisper out of this thing, the fan is dead silent, it's literally quieter than my notebook laptop most of the time, even during intense gameplay. I put my hand over it to feel the heat and I hardly feel that much, especially compared to the cooling in the One X, which was far louder in comparison, with the heat making the back of the console a literal pain to touch. Even after hours of intense graphical gameplay, I don't think I could get this thing to get \"hot\", it hardly gets warm as it is. Microsoft wasn't lying about the cooling system, it's genuinely impressive, I can guarantee you will not hear this fan, even without headphones, it's quieter than my Switch 100% of the time.Ergonomics are not something you think about, but this design has seriously grown on me. At the reveal, I thought the console was far too basic, but right now I'm in love with how cleannnnnn it looks on my shelf. It's not too big, not too chunky, and just tall enough, although I wish the Series S was just a cube lol. If you're iffy on the design, just wait until it blends perfectly onto your shelf or stand - although I must warn everyone considering that it probably won't fit in your shelf, so you may want to think of a different spot to place it. It also doesn't look the best on its side, so I would recommend a vertical space. For a height reference, it's just above half the vertical length of my 43\" TV, hope it helps. It's also a bit denser than you may expect, but it's not really \"heavy.\"Overall, this delivers phenomenally. For $500, I can guarantee you will be happy with this for at least 3/4 more years. So if you're on the fence and want something to last, and may not usually care about the newest tech, get it - trust me. The Series S is not a wise investment as it'll just be functionally outdated soon enough, but you will not be disappointed and this thing'll last for a loooooong time. Jump the gun and go for it, yes you! The graphical capabilities are unreal for the price, the future looks very promising, and after being in love with the PS4 exclusives, I can guarantee you will likely find more enjoyment out of the Xbox this time around, it's doing very well, although I don't think the PS5 is anywhere near bad, just take my suggestion with a grain of salt. If you're sick of loading, this is your godsend, take it and run.Hope this helped anyone on the fence. I absolutely would recommend. "

It doesn't get hot at all, even after hours of playing.Aesthetically, at first, I will admit, I found it a little awkward. However, the fact that its dimensions are actually a little less than 12x6x6in^3 (HxLxW), makes the tower design rather pleasing. The updated controller is actually really comfortable to use, too! It's very grippy, and the material used for the body is even used for the bumpers, triggers, AND D-pad. Oh, and also, the updated D-pad design is SUPER satisfying to use, and provides both a great responsive feel and aids in making your button inputs so much more precise. The power brick is finally a thing of the past! However, I'm not sure if the design and hardware engineers were able to integrate a safety feature into the system itself to protect against sudden power loss/surge, so be sure to use a power strip that offers that type of safety feature (just as a precautionary measure to take care of your console). My ONE issue with this console is that you won't actually get the full 1 terabyte (TB) of SSD storage as advertised, which is not surprising. The system software itself is stored into the hard disk and takes up about 222 gigabytes (GBs) of your 1TB (1024GB), so you'll only have 802.0GB of free space left for your games. In this day and age, 802GB is NOT enough for a complete library of games, considering most AAA games now ship around the 50-75GB range, and eventual, future updates for your games only means you will have less and less space for the games you'd want to install onto your local drive. This is unfortunate, but it is the reality.Thankfully, this console is designed to accommodate for expanding your internal storage, so I would highly recommend the purchasing of additional SSD-type storage that is compatible with this Xbox. 1 additional TB of SSD storage should suffice. Please be sure to do further research on the subject before making that purchase.Overall performance, however, is AMAZING. This console provides the best experience in console gaming of this new generation, and the loading times (thanks to the switch from HDD to SSD and better hardware optimization) have been reduced to you barely being even able to open your phone in time to look at Reddit/Twitter, or whatever to pass the time. However, please be sure that you own a TV/monitor that will allow you to take full advantage of this console's performance/graphical capabilities. (More research is required on TV specifications for an optimal experience.)The way Microsoft has handled the launch of this system makes the console extremely consumer-friendly, and you can be sure that you will be getting the best \"bang for your buck\" by choosing Xbox over its competitors. That being said, although this console is $500, it definitely lives up to its promise, and, to date, I do not feel, nor have I felt, disappointed by my purchase.New gamers will absolutely love this console, and returning gamers can be assured that this machine lives up to the hype.Happy playing! 82 "body": "The Series X is absolutely the best VALUE console... if you can get your hands on one that is...First, the hardware, the Series X has a 1TB NVME SSD, with about 800 GB available after the OS files take over. Compared to the Series S 512 GB with about 360 available for user files, or the PS5's 825 GB with 667 GB of usable space. Why is storage so important? Because next gen games CANNOT be loaded on to an external drive. As of this review (Feb 2021) there are still no expansion solutions for the PS5. Xbox Series can use an external drive to store the games and play backwards compatible games, so there is a bit of a relief if you don't want to spend $220 on a 1TB expansion card. The console itself is surprisingly small, while still monolithic, it is noticeably more compact than previous generation consoles in terms of sheer volume. I found it's far easy to put my Series X into my backpack with some other stuff. I do travel a bit for work so my use case is a bit more unique, but it's nice nonetheless. That being said, you may want to check you can fit it into your entertainment center due to the cuboid shape. The controller isn't a huge departure from the Xbox One generation, the inclusion of a dedicated capture button is a welcome improvement, as is the addition of textured grips and updated VERY CLICKY d-pad. The PS5 controller seems to be having issues with drift due to the new design, so if it ain't broke don't fix it.Performance wise, this is easily the fastest console on the market in terms of actual day to day use. Quick Resume functions far better than the PS5's game suspend function, as I've noticed the Series X can keep a couple of games suspended, even when powered off and unplugged, the PS5 seems to just keep one in memory and only while plugged in. Backwards compatible games absolutely fly, and with the work that Xbox has put in to make BC games perform better I have found myself playing older games that took forever to load. There aren't many exclusive next gen games but Gears 5 is noticeably better looking on a 4K TV compared to last generations powerhouse the Xbox One X.Cross platform games generally have more options on the Series X than on S or PS5. For example on Cyberpunk you have a 60 FPS mode or a 4K mode (that runs at a LOCKED 30 fps and runs at higher quality setting than any other console in terms of ray tracing and npc density). The PS5 only has one option and it appears to be a 60 FPS mode. The weak part of the Series X would be the lack of games if it wasn't for GamePass. If you're buying an Xbox without GamePass you may as well not buy any Xbox as it is THE reason to get into the Xbox ecosystem. Access to every new Microsoft produced game day one is fantastic. I barely purchase games anymore as most of the games I want to play are on GamePass, the inclusion of EA play in Ultimate definitely the way to go.The reason why you may not be interested in an Xbox is the PS5, which frankly at the time of writing this review has a better next gen library. I understand that Xbox studios is working hard on new games but the PS5 has the stronger launch lineup. If you have an existing Xbox library, or don't have a last gen console then the Series X is the far better value proposition as the Series X has 4 generations of games available instantly thanks to GamePass. If you're wanting to check out GamePass but don't want to spend as much money and are more invested in the Playstation ecosystem, it might be more prudent to check out the Series S due to the lower cost of entry. You will be hampered by the significantly smaller drive and the focus on 1080p gaming, which is fine for people looking for a bedroom console or fortnite machine for the kids.In conclusion the Series X is the best console for the money right now, and will likely hold its value far into the future. The PS5 controller issues and lack of expandable storage make it a wait to buy until stock and hardware issues can be sorted out. The Series S will likely be easier to buy and cheaper, but you might find yourself wanting to upgrade in a year or two when next gen games REALLY take advantage of the hardware. "

Backwards compatibility is great many games look better without a patch due to higher anisotropic filtering. The UI has matured and is very feature rich compared the the PS5. Transfer times to the internal SSD are much faster than the PS5 both systems I use a western digital back 16gb (Xbox) 8gb(PS5)Microsoft have done a great job updating their first party apps for the new console, where as Sony is charging for cross grades. There’s no denying Sony has great first party studios but the Xbox just works better and imho has a broader appeal due to how they have treated their new console as an addition to their Xbox family rather than a totally new system like Sony has done. Smart delivery works perfectly as it should. I think the spatial audio through headphones is a little better on PS5 unless it’s a game that supports Dolby Atmos. But it does sound very good I’m hoping they tweak it more in upcoming firmware updates.Negative things, really only the wifi and some DRM issues. The SX doesn’t use the latest wifi standard so no MU-MIMO and you get ac speeds whereas the ps5 has ax and MU-MIMO I can hit about 250mbit/sec on SX wifi and I’m getting around 400mbit on PS5. Wired both systems almost max out my gbit connection when performing speed tests downloading to the internal drives. And the DRM can be problematic if you don’t go into settings and set it as your home console. Some games still won’t boot without an internet connection. To summarize Microsoft have delivered a solid consumer focused console. They understand we like to play our older games and have made an awesome backwards compatible machine. Games like forza horizon 4 and gears 5 almost hit the same level of detail I get on my 2080ti they look stunning running natively. The UI is well thought out and is now much faster than it was on their last gen systems. Gamepass is great, I’ve actually bought games I probably wouldn’t have due to being able test drive them on gamepass. Outside of ratchet and clank and Spider-Man / MM I’ve spent more time playing the series x. "

After using both for a while I’ve come to the conclusion that i still love both in different ways but the PS5 is edging ahead due to it’s innovation and the exclusives. The PS5 feels much more like an all new console. There are things the xbox does that the PS5 doesn’t and vice versa. The biggie in my opinion is the ability to just plug in a storage expansion card. Both consoles don’t allow you to use a usb external hard drive like the old consoles did. You can STORE new games for series x/s or PS5, but to play them you must transfer them over to the internal SSD. So not having to open up your console, choose a drive with the proper specs and add a heat sink yourself is a huge win over Sony for the Xbox. I’ve noticed the Xbox series X is far more quiet than the PS5 but that’s really not a big deal to me. Also the PS5 seems quite a bit more smooth in the UI (which is completely redesigned unlike the Xbox which feels and looks identical to the Xbox One X). I’ve had problems with the series X crashing or slowing a LOT and have never had that issue with the PS5. Downloading games is kind of different as well. On PS5, you can play and download all you want whereas the Xbox will slow your download speed drastically when you play a series X/S game. Which leaves you basically with the option of play or download not both simultaneously. They both have a very quick multitasking capability and the Xbox will jump from game to game quicker than the PS5 does. The controller is a bit smaller and slightly updated over the Xbox One. It’s textured on the rear of the handles and on the triggers and fits in your hand much better. The PS5 controller is vastly superior though with its haptic feedback vibrations and the adaptive triggers, this does drain battery a bit quicker than the Xbox but i think it’s worth it and it’s still plenty good enough for long gaming sessions. Plus it will recharge very quickly anyway. Also Xbox is still convinced that people want to be using AA batteries and you must pay extra for a licensed rechargeable battery pack which i find ridiculous. It does now have a USB Type C port for quicker data transfer and charge speeds but the PS5’s dual sense controller comes out of the box with a rechargeable battery and a usb-c cable as well as usb-c port on the console itself. I feel that Sony (for now) has the much better lineup of exclusives but only time will tell if Xbox can catch up in that category. Graphics wise i think both consoles are so close in specs that it’s hard to choose a real winner there but the PS5 does seem to load games slightly quicker. All in all it’s an incredible gaming machine and you can really see and feel the difference between it and the Xbox One. As time goes on and more developers are able to take advantage of the power of the series X the games will get bigger and better and more beautiful. But even now it feels like a massive step forward. I think it is definitely worth the extra money to get the series X over the S. Having a disc drive and the extra storage is huge with how large games are becoming. You would spend a lot of time deleting and swapping games around on the Series S. And you can harness the full potential of the newest games. 4 stars for now due to lack of exclusives and the controller still really annoys me, it should have some of if not all the capabilities of the DualSense and have a rechargeable battery pack. Hopefully they can revive the Forza Motorsport series, Halo and Fable. Other than those 3 I don’t see much coming in the way of exclusives. "

While this one was tricky to acquire, i will say one thing. This is the first console i have every bought that felt truly next generation! The SSD drastically improves load screens (longest load screen on Diablo 3 was about 2 seconds) and call of duty warzone now allows me to participate in the pregame warm ups with roughly 57 seconds. The xbox one and PS4 pro gave me around 15-20 seconds usually. It is super quiet, and the UI is unchanged so its super familiar. Even games that arent optimized for this console play incredibly well. Warzone runs on average of around 110-114 frames per second (i usually play aggressively so there is a bunch of action on the screen at any one time) Diablo 3 is limited to 60 fps from the developer (Blizzard Entertainment) but it still performs incredibly well. Cyberpunk 2077 (despite the harsh criticism) performs really well too. Load screens are only a few seconds long, the visuals are beautiful, and the new controller truly does cut down on input delay (high fps helps too). I hooked up my xbox one and my series x side by side. I tested the delay with reloading the same exact gun at the same exact time. The series x was noticeably faster (even though its in milliseconds, if you look hard enough you will see it). It stays incredibly cool. It does get warm (As all hardware does) but it stays within acceptable temperatures. Optimal temperature really. Overall, having played my buddies PS5 and having played the Series X, i must admit, i prefer the series x. The PS5 wont play games in 120 fps unless they have been ported over to new gen, where as the series x is getting an update here soon that will make almost every game run at higher frame rates without the game developer issuing a patch (Crucial for me as i love going back and playing old titles).Pros:Fast load timesStays quietStays coolFaster FPSImproved controller connection to allow less input delay (Crucial for competitive gamers)Backwards compatible with almost every single game (excluding kinect games)The new controller is even more comfortable than the XB1 controller with its new Dpad, new grip, rounded triggers and bumpers.Cons:The only really approved external storage are some proprietary SSD cards that seagate makes. Who knows when other 3rd party manufacturers will get involved.I would recommend this to everyone. "

118 "body": "I have owned this system since release in November, so this review is not a first-impression take.First, like most systems launched these days, there were some quirks and bugs at launch, but those have since been ironed out. The UI is the same, which can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. I personally view that as a positive because I knew where everything was when trying to troubleshoot some of those early bugs.Second, I realize Xbox had no dedicated or exclusive games for this gen at release, but having access to and playing my library of both old and new Xbox One games in better quality and speed has more than made up the lack of exclusive titles. New (and current) games offering Series Optimized updates were/are stunning and I feel only scratch the surface on what this system can do overall. Smart Delivery has also been a huge plus in upgrading games that have an optimization without having to really do anything.Hard drive speeds have been nothing short of impressive. Load times on basic XBOne games are a fraction of my One X. I also picked up the Seagate expansion storage, and there is nothing different between games played off either drive. Transfers between the two are a snap (if you know the UI), and I can attest that a 40 GB game takes roughly 90 seconds to move. And finally, there's Quick Resume, easily the most next-gen feature that feels a little underrated. While it doesn't work on all games, such as some online-only games, it has been a breath of fresh air for larger games that have larger load times (Assassin's Creed Valhalla was my best test case).Let me offer this up as well: for the first time in my gaming life, a new console generation actually outperforms most current-gen TVs. I have a 4K/60Hz LG panel that has been an awesome TV, yet I would have to upgrade to get the most out of this system. That doesnt mean an upgrade is necessary, however, as everything I've been able to play in 4K/60 has been amazing. And as a note, I probably won't be upgrading the TV just yet.If you can find this system at stock price, you will not be disappointed. If you are more of a casual gamer, don't discredit the Series S either as it too is an awesome little system. "
